OKBET RACING | Kazakhstan Will Host 2023 MotoGP

The news that Kazakhstan will join the MotoGP schedule in 2023 was revealed by promoter Dorna on Tuesday.

This will mark the first time that the premier category of the motorcycle world championship will be held in Central Asia.

According to a statement released by Dorna, “2023 will mark the beginning of a new five-year partnership that sees MotoGP touch down in a new region of the world.”

The event, the date of which has not yet been revealed, will take place at the Sokol circuit, which is characterized as “a brand-new motor sport complex erected in the heart of Central Asia.” The Sokol circuit is located outside of Almaty, which is the largest city in the country.

Since the race’s inception in 1949, Kazakhstan will mark the 30th different nation to play host to the event.

As a result of a decline in attendance at a number of European grand prix, the organiser of MotoGP races is attempting to make up for lost ground by broadening their fan base internationally.

Last week, Dorna made the announcement that they are in in discussions with various Indian authorities over the possibility of establishing a grand prix in India “in the near future.”

In the beginning of this month, Dorna signed a memorandum of understanding with Saudi Arabia to have the country soon host one of the rounds of the MotoGP world championship. However, neither the date nor the track were specified in the document.

Although the official MotoGP calendar for the following season has not yet been announced, there is a possibility that there will be 21 races on the schedule. This was the original plan for the 2022 season, but the Finnish Grand Prix had to be postponed.

The year after, each competition will consist of two separate races: a sprint on the Saturday and a grand prix on the Sunday. AFP
